Does anyone actually know what a timing chain job should cost on a 1.8 TSI? - beulahtregerthen - 09-26-2026 Asking because I keep getting wildly different numbers and I'm starting to think some shops are just making it up as they go. My 2015 Passat has 180k on it and the chain is starting to rattle on cold starts, which from what I've read is the classic warning sign. One garage quoted me 3200, another said 4800, and the dealer basically laughed and said 7000 plus. That spread makes no sense to me for what should be a fairly standard job on these engines. I found https://caracrepairsharjah.ae/brands/volkswagen/ while searching around and I'm planning to ring them for a quote, but I'd like to walk in knowing what's fair instead of just accepting whatever number they throw out. For those who've done this job, did you replace just the chain or the tensioner and guides at the same time? And is there any real difference in labour time between the 1.8 and the 2.0? |
